Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there a cost to participate?

No — participation is free, thanks to the generous sponsors and partners of the Christmas Festival.

Who benefits from the donations?

Winning teams choose a verified 501(c)(3) charity of their choice*. VOIH will make direct donations in those organizations’ names and announce them publicly during the award ceremony.

*Voice of Indian Head is chartered to support the Town of Indian Head and immediately surrounding communities.  Selected charties must have a relevance/benefit to the local community in order for us to be able to dispense funds.

When and where does the contest take place?

The Caroling Contest happens during the Town of Indian Head Christmas Festival on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Village Green Park. Carolers join the tree lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m., then spread cheer throughout the park until 7:15 p.m., when winners are announced.

Who can participate?

Anyone! Teams must have at least 3 members, and groups of all ages are welcome — families, friends, choirs, school groups, or co-workers.

How do we register?

Teams sign up online through the VOIH registration form. Simply provide your team name, contact info, and the charity you’ll sing for. Registration closes November 30 or when spaces fill.

What are the prizes?

This contest is all about singing for good!

  • 🥇 1st Place — $1,000 donation to your chosen charity

  • 🥈 2nd Place — $500 donation

  • 🥉 3rd Place — $250 donation
Each prize is a donation made by VOIH to a registered nonprofit selected by your team.

How does voting work?

Guests at the festival will cast votes for their favorite caroling teams throughout the evening. Judges and audience input will be combined to determine winners.

Do we need to choose our own songs?

Yes! You can perform classic or contemporary carols — keep them family-friendly and under three minutes. Everyone will sing one song together during the tree lighting to start the event.  If you need help selecting tunes, reach out, and we’ll give you a winning list.

Will there be microphones or amplification?

The only amplification will be the spirit in th air.  Teams will sing acoustically and traditionally!

What should we wear?

Dress warmly and festively! Keep it family friendly.  Coordinated scarves, hats, or simple costumes are encouraged — but comfort and warmth come first.

Can we participate if we’re not local?

Absolutely! Neighboring communities are invited to join in — this event celebrates regional spirit and goodwill. Our only ask is that you select a non-profit recipient that is local and benefits the Indian Head and surrounding community.
