SUMMARY:Charles County Built This: A Community AI Build Afternoon
DESCRIPTION:Join us and build something useful with AI. Voice of Indian Head and the United States Bomb Technician Association are bringing Charles County neighbors together for a free\, hands-on afternoon where adults\, teens\, and families can turn an idea into something real. No technical experience or coding knowledge is required. \nWe are gathering in Indian Head\, the anchor of the officially designated Western Charles County Technology Corridor. This is a chance to live into that designation at the community level: not simply by talking about technology\, but by helping local people build skills\, confidence\, and useful projects together. \n\nHosted together\, here in Indian Head \nMeet your hosts\n\n \nVoice of Indian Head\nWe connect neighbors with useful local information\, civic life\, and opportunities to take part in the future of Indian Head. \n\n \nUnited States Bomb Technician Association\nUSBTA brings a spirit of training\, technology\, and collaboration—and is opening its Indian Head home to welcome the wider community. \n\n\n\nCharles County built this. You can too.\nThis is not a lecture\, hackathon\, or sales pitch. Come with your own idea or choose an approachable starting point: \n\nA recipe site or family photo organizer\nA homework helper or bedtime-story generator\nA practical small-business tool\nA family game or another project that matters to you\n\nPatient helpers will circulate throughout the afternoon\, explain each step in plain language\, and help when you get stuck. Bring a laptop and an idea if you have one; leave with something you built alongside your neighbors. \n\n\n💻\nWhat to bring\n\nA Linux\, Mac\, Windows\, or Chromebook laptop; family teams may share one device\nA charger\nAn idea\, if you have one\nPersonal access to an AI service\n\nWe cannot provide loaner laptops\, AI accounts\, or API keys. Free AI tiers probably will not support a full afternoon of building\, so plan to use your own entry-level paid plan if needed. Family teams should use a provider-compliant account and device. The guardian remains responsible for the account and provider compliance. \n\n\n🕒\nAfternoon agenda\n\n1:15 p.m.: Welcome and orientation\n1:30 p.m.: Building begins\, with helpers circulating and snacks and beverages available\n3:15 p.m.: Optional 90-second demonstrations\n3:45 p.m.: Group wrap-up\n\n\n\nFamily participation\nChildren in Kindergarten and up are welcome to build with a parent or guardian who remains present and actively supervises them. Ages 13-17 may use an AI tool hands-on when the provider permits it and required guardian permission is in place. For ages 5-12\, hands-on use is allowed only through a provider experience and account configuration that expressly supports supervised child access; otherwise\, the adult operates while the child contributes ideas\, choices\, creativity\, and testing. The guardian remains responsible for the account and provider compliance. Each adult may supervise no more than two minors. This is a family activity\, not childcare or a drop-off program. \nHelp make the afternoon happen\nWe are also looking for volunteers to help make the event a success. If you would like to lend a hand\, email events@builtthis.ai. \nOn-site parking is available\, and the venue is accessible. To request a specific accommodation or ask for setup guidance before the event\, email events@builtthis.ai. \n\nReady to build with us?\nSpace is limited and registration is first-come\, first-served. Bring your curiosity and come build Charles County’s next useful idea with us. \nReserve Your Spot \n\n\n\n\nA simple way to help \nHelp Spread the Word\nKnow a neighbor\, student\, parent\, educator\, or small-business owner who should build with us? Download and share the event flyer. \nDownload and share the event flyer (PDF) →
