SUMMARY:Charles County Built This: A Community AI Build Afternoon
DESCRIPTION:Join us and build something useful with AI. Voice of Indian Head and the United States Bomb Technician Association are bringing Charles County neighbors together for a free\, hands-on afternoon where adults\, teens\, and families can turn an idea into something real. No technical experience or coding knowledge is required. \nWe are gathering in Indian Head\, the anchor of the officially designated Western Charles County Technology Corridor. This is a chance to live into that designation at the community level: not simply by talking about technology\, but by helping local people build skills\, confidence\, and useful projects together. \n\nHosted together\, here in Indian Head \nMeet your hosts\n\n \nVoice of Indian Head\nWe connect neighbors with useful local information\, civic life\, and opportunities to take part in the future of Indian Head. \n\n \nUnited States Bomb Technician Association\nUSBTA brings a spirit of training\, technology\, and collaboration—and is opening its Indian Head home to welcome the wider community. \n\n\n\nCharles County built this. You can too.\nThis is not a lecture\, hackathon\, or sales pitch. Come with your own idea or choose an approachable starting point: \n\nA recipe site or family photo organizer\nA homework helper or bedtime-story generator\nA practical small-business tool\nA family game or another project that matters to you\n\nPatient helpers will circulate throughout the afternoon\, explain each step in plain language\, and help when you get stuck. Bring a laptop and an idea if you have one; leave with something you built alongside your neighbors. \n\n\n💻\nWhat to bring\n\nA Linux\, Mac\, Windows\, or Chromebook laptop; family teams may share one device\nA charger\nAn idea\, if you have one\nPersonal access to an AI service\n\nWe cannot provide loaner laptops\, AI accounts\, or API keys. Free AI tiers probably will not support a full afternoon of building\, so plan to use your own entry-level paid plan if needed. Family teams should use a provider-compliant account and device. The guardian remains responsible for the account and provider compliance. \n\n\n🕒\nAfternoon agenda\n\n1:15 p.m.: Welcome and orientation\n1:30 p.m.: Building begins\, with helpers circulating and snacks and beverages available\n3:15 p.m.: Optional 90-second demonstrations\n3:45 p.m.: Group wrap-up\n\n\n\nFamily participation\nChildren in Kindergarten and up are welcome to build with a parent or guardian who remains present and actively supervises them. Ages 13-17 may use an AI tool hands-on when the provider permits it and required guardian permission is in place. For ages 5-12\, hands-on use is allowed only through a provider experience and account configuration that expressly supports supervised child access; otherwise\, the adult operates while the child contributes ideas\, choices\, creativity\, and testing. The guardian remains responsible for the account and provider compliance. Each adult may supervise no more than two minors. This is a family activity\, not childcare or a drop-off program. \nHelp make the afternoon happen\nWe are also looking for volunteers to help make the event a success. SUMMARY:Barrel Oak Wine Run 5K: Volunteers Needed for USBTA
DESCRIPTION:USBTA needs volunteers this Sunday\, and this is one of those moments where Indian Head can show up for a partner that shows up for us. \nThe United States Bomb Technician Association is one of our community partners and part of our community fabric. They support the base\, invest in Indian Head\, strengthen public-safety capability\, and help connect the people\, tools\, training\, and relationships that keep difficult work moving forward. We know them\, we appreciate them\, and we want to help them have a strong morning at the Barrel Oak Wine Run 5K. \n\nVolunteer Call: Help USBTA Sunday Morning\nWhen: Sunday\, June 7\, 2026\, from 7:30am to 10:30am \nWhere: Barrel Oak Winery and Brewery\, 3623 Grove Lane\, Delaplane\, VA 20144 \nHelp needed: check-in before the race\, finisher medals\, water after the race\, and finish photos using the race company’s camera. \nTransportation: carpooling options may be available to help volunteers get there. Reach out to ask and coordinate. \nTo volunteer: email nmotsek@usbta.us or call/text 202.549.0331. \n\nFor volunteers: the immediate need is simple and practical: a few more people Sunday morning to help the race run smoothly. Volunteers should contact USBTA directly at nmotsek@usbta.us or 202.549.0331. If transportation is a concern\, ask about carpooling options when you reach out. \nFor runners\, walkers\, and attendees: the Barrel Oak Wine Run 5K begins at 9:00am. Participants can register through RunSignup\, and supporters who cannot volunteer can still help by registering\, donating\, attending\, or sharing the call for volunteers. \nRace registration includes chip timing\, a shirt\, finisher medal\, race bib\, posted results\, and a post-race wine pour for eligible participants. Packet pickup is race-day only and opens one hour before the race starts. \nUSBTA’s mission is directly tied to the kind of community-building Voice of Indian Head wants to support: connecting bomb technicians with tomorrow’s capabilities\, strengthening trust and collaboration across the bomb disposal community\, and supporting realistic training for active bomb technicians. \nBest way to help right now: volunteer if you can. If you cannot\, register to run or walk\, donate\, attend\, or share this with someone who may be available Sunday morning. \nEmail Nicole Motsek at USBTA to volunteer \nRegister\, donate\, or view race details on RunSignup
