🏆 Celebrating the Heart of Our Town

Every town has people who make life better in ways that aren’t always seen — the neighbor who checks in on elders, the coach who mentors after hours, the volunteer who shows up before anyone else, or the quiet helper whose kindness ripples out farther than they realize.

Here in Indian Head, those people are the heartbeat of who we are.
And this year, we’re taking an important step to honor them.

Voice of Indian Head, in partnership with the Town of Indian Head, is proud to launch the First Annual Community Champion of the Year Award — a new tradition to recognize the individuals whose service, integrity, and compassion strengthen our town from within.

Why This Award Matters

Throughout the year, we see examples of people who lift up others not because they have to, but because they care — people who embody the values that define Indian Head: faith, family, integrity, gratitude, and empathy.

This award celebrates those individuals.

Each year, one resident from the town or surrounding “broader Indian Head community” will be selected as our Community Champion of the Year and honored publicly at a Town Hall ceremony. Along with the recognition, VOIH will make a $2,000 charitable donation in the honoree’s name to a qualifying local 501(c)(3) of their choice.

It’s a way of shining light on selfless service — and helping that light spread even further.

Community grows stronger when ordinary people choose extraordinary service.

What Makes a Community Champion?

A Community Champion is not defined by a title, position, or organization — though many are connected to churches, schools, civic groups, or local nonprofits.
At its core, this award recognizes people, and the good they bring into the lives of their neighbors.

Champions might be youth mentors, caregivers, volunteers, teachers, program leaders, or simply everyday residents who consistently step forward to help others.
What matters most is the impact they make and the spirit they carry.

This initiative reflects our shared belief, voiced often by Mayor Paulin, that Indian Head’s greatest strength is its people. And it aligns with VOIH’s mission to foster Impact, Awareness, and Civic Engagement, strengthening our community through shared purpose and collective care.

A Call to Lift Up the Good

This award isn’t just about one person.
It’s about cultivating a culture of gratitude, service, and civic pride and recognizing the everyday heroes who inspire us all to step forward a little more boldly.

When we highlight their example, we strengthen the ties that make our town compassionate, resilient, and proud.

So take a moment to look around you — to the neighbor, mentor, volunteer, or friend who has made a difference in your life or in the life of our community.

Let’s tell their story. Let’s lift them up.
And let’s celebrate the heart of Indian Head together.

Because together, we build a better Indian Head.
