What is Voice of Indian Head?

Voice of Indian Head (VOIH) is a nonprofit community investment project launched by residents of Indian Head, Maryland. We support, strengthen, and amplify the community through charitable investments, information sharing, and civic engagement.

How is VOIH organized?

VOIH operates as a Component Fund of Chesapeake Charities, part of the Community Foundation of Southern Maryland. This structure ensures full compliance with IRS 501(c)(3) regulations, independent oversight, and professional fund management.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. As a Component Fund of Chesapeake Charities, all donations to VOIH are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Donors should consult their financial advisor for details.

How does VOIH decide where to invest funds?

Our investments are guided by our Core Values (Faith, Family, Integrity, Gratitude, Empathy) and our Three Pillars of Commitment (Impact, Awareness, Civic Engagement). We support initiatives that are inclusive, strengthen the whole community, and align with our mission.

Does VOIH support faith-based organizations?

Yes — when faith-based organizations are serving the community broadly (e.g., food banks, tutoring, outreach programs). We do not fund activities that are exclusive to one denomination or that advance religious doctrine rather than community benefit.

Is VOIH political?

No. VOIH is and will remain non-partisan. We may provide commentary on public policies that affect our town and region, but we do not endorse or oppose candidates or political parties.

What are VOIH’s Core Values?

Our work is grounded in five Core Values:

    • Faith — in God and in humanity’s goodness

    • Family — strong homes build strong communities

    • Integrity — doing right, even when it’s hard

    • Gratitude — honoring sacrifices and blessings

    • Empathy — listening, including, uplifting

How can I get involved besides donating money?

There are many ways to give:

    • Volunteer at events

    • Write or contribute articles, stories, or op-eds

    • Comment on and share VOIH content

    • Help with fundraising or grant writing

    • Offer your expertise or mentorship

How does VOIH ensure transparency?

We publish periodic reports outlining our activities and investments. We are open to reviewing our operations with interested community members (with appropriate safeguards for donor anonymity and legal privacy requirements).

What information does VOIH collect about me?

We collect information you provide (such as when donating, volunteering, or registering for an event) and non-personal data (such as cookies and analytics). We do not sell or trade personal information. For details, see our Privacy Policy.

How does VOIH protect donor information?

Donor information is safeguarded through encryption, access controls, and strict vendor confidentiality rules. Donation processing is handled securely by Chesapeake Charities. Donor names and amounts are only shared publicly with your explicit consent.
